Johnston Letters from 1949

Dear HWE:

Wiclif you know, in the 14^th century saw this with clarity and conviction, that all church property must be not independent of the civil authority or law but under its control, and that in fact, it is impossible for the “church” to own property without being corrupted. In the right five centuries, in these very years Knapp supplies such excellent factual material on,-Sept. 1888 – Sept. 1892–, Mrs. Eddy scientifically crowns and founds what Wiclif so clearly saw. This problem of church property and corruption first came to its statement or light. In the 11^th century, with the rise of the Feudal system. Abbots and bishops fearing for their property, in a world yet largely lawless, became the lord’s vassal for protecting that property. Thus came “simony” or fee exacted for the church successor, and control of “investiture of the clergy”. This very corruption problem led to forming the College of Cardinals in 1059 A.D., thus ending the Pope’s election in what had begun and long continued by both clergy and lay members.

Thus evil feeds on evil, and in the rising light of three centuries, the 14^th, Wiclif saw the real trouble, church property ownership, which personal control-the “accessories”-no more ended under the cardinals than did that of the “lords”. Property corrupts “church” and must, firmly said Wiclif, but he could not give the answer. Two centuries later, the 16^th with Henry the 8^th, as England, these “unformed thoughts” of Wiclif, in throwing out cardinal control, were gathered into their proper channels…even as He opens the petals of a holy purpose in order that the purpose may appear” (S&H 506:18-21, on Two). And in the next three of the light of spiritual understanding, church was brought to its final Revelation, no property-“the deathless Life, or Mind, dependent upon no material organization.” (509)

It is really wonderful that Knapp as you say has “a high spirit and that means so much”, and has such grand revealing fact, at least in the first edition, on church with no corrupting property, for he seems not to have yet the faintest sense of its Mind-substance or presence right there unfolded. God’s “heaven’s first law and so His law (appearing) as perfect order which in turn is called dates and numbers etc.”, used seven centuries to 1) state the church corrupting problem with property, and 2) reveal and found the spiritual fact to that material beholding lie, that church is the presence of God the one and only Mind and Spirit, with no material element or material dependence whatsoever! Only the Science of church could give its seven or completion of this event and thing, of this “complete time or number” (Mess. ‘00.14)

Especially let me thank you for this excellent definition of “numerals” quoted above. Most timely now for me here, as you’ll see. And for that arousing statement on the Revelation (all these Jan 5^th) as always IS. At this point in a pause, I come across Ret. 26:17: “Jesus of Nazareth was a natural and divine Scientist…He who antedated Abraham, and gave the world a new date in the Christian era, was a Christian Scientist, who needed no discovery of the Science of being in order to rebuke the evidence. To one ‘born of the flesh,’ (to the material sense of it-J.) however, divine Science must be (seems or is-J.) a discovery.”

You also on Dec. 10^th, on the Bible, SCIENCE AND HEALTH, and the revelation, put this most splendidly as, always present-what IS-as the voice of God. I was most consciously aware, and put it to myself in 1945 before starting this work, as my file now so abundantly testifies, what a deep privilege the thinking with you, in your letters would be, and you must know how they enlighten and inspire me, and a thousand thanks. Times ten thousand.

The Pyramid material at last gave the most important light, removing the veil that had hung over “numerals of infinity” as to why they go right together in the order of “the calendar of time,” not at all of course reckoned by it, nor in all there is to it-the substance or spiritual defining-in any way confined to “the so-called formula of the human mind” (WHOSO 12). Rather, the one substance and the dates or numerals and ‘years” controlled by the one cause, Cause, in the one perfect order or effect. Only thus

can there be the sense and language of “rising higher and higher from the boundless basis”, the sense of anything as its infinite not finite substance infinitely unfolding, taking all the “dream belief” of our every essential line and light “that, rightly translated, disappears only in reappearing in its true sense as the light of Truth.” (WHOSO 12)

This week there has been the most amazing clarification of the first 12 centuries from Christ Jesus of our Christian line as shown forth by England, the English language of course as the language of spirit (CCT.300-note that 3 by the way, for as The L of L so wonderfully establishes, this language is the clothing of SCIENCE AND HEALTH, of the “spiritual idea”). This clarification this week goes of course right to the 20^th century and in fact gives me the strongest possible verification that this very year, and even month-NOW-is a great spiritual fulfilling in “the light of spiritual understanding”. I can’t now tell you what it is. But it is here moving now, endlessly backed by the “numerals of infinity” of all these centuries, and of enormous spiritual substance. It is as certain as this typewriter’s saying so. God’s guidance is what moves the moments to the “epochs” naturally in His perfect order and fulfilling, and it will positively be seen at the right time.

Just a little only of detail here now. The first 12 centuries with England as the Christ line to America and SCIENCE AND HEALTH, begins just as you had to begin the “cct” books, with law and order. That is always the essence of course of the line of light, of all unfoldment in spiritual substance expressing God alone: “Christ’s Christianity is the chain of scientific being reappearing in all ages, maintaining its obvious correspondence with the Scriptures, and uniting all periods in the design of God.” (S&H. 271)

The first century with England is of the idea of law. From 55 B.C. it took Rome 100 years to conquer England, and the Roman Empire in history as you know means just one thing to all,–Roman Law, LAW, a sense of civil order that long was about universal. This rod or law and order lasted 300 years exactly, to the first decade of 400, when in the 5^th (crowning) century 449 A.D. as their main year of arrival, arrived the now in law and government, immortal almost as it were, Anglo-Saxon. Isaacson of course is Jacob, grandson (not persons but spiritually rising light) of Abraham and father of the 12 tribes. Christianity in my “Epoch” history book here is given as introduced into England in the 2^nd century (the Winchester vol. at Winchester, VA in ’45 had its last chapter on it as at least there then), and here then we also get the 3 centuries of this culminating in arrival 449 of the Anglo-Saxons, just right for the century substance rising light, or order spiritually.

With Roman law gone, England was more in flux and the more pagan Danes had “dispersed” the first Christianity. But with the Anglo-Saxons, esp. Saxons, in their spirit as the cream of the ten lost tribes, to work with Augustine came in 597 to bring all England to Christianity, was the first Canterbury Bishop, lasted 7 years, finishing his work and dying in 604. By the next, or end of this 7^th century the Gospel or Christian bond was planted over England as a unity, and by the 8^th had brought forth: “And Christianity was be-

coming the one bond between these warring forces. Northumbria was the first to gain supremacy (in Christian bond or spirit, from the Danes), then Mercia (mid-Eng.), and finally Wessex (Saxon and Alfred’s land).” (Epochs of World Progress, 204, pub. in 1947—L of L conference year in S.F.— by two leading Penna. Educators). [This is a volume textbook – J]

Thus from the 5^th to 8^th centuries, the law and order as the Anglo-Saxons was regathering or forming in the Christian bond, and we arrive at the most momentous 9^th century, and the mighty work of that Saxon, Alfred, in the last quarter, same part of about as Mrs. Eddy, his 871-901. We all learned in school as they say here of Alfred, “one of the greatest and most beloved of British rulers-Alfred the Great.”

But I practically fell off my chair when I saw this week specifically why, so pure and absolute in the straight line of light! In these 12 centuries of England’s unfolding line of light as the one and real law and order, to be completed in the “full workings” of this idea by Henry 2^nd in the closing 12^th-1154-1189-Alfred now gives England’s first written LAW, and Holy Smoke, bases it on the Ten Commandments and the Golden Rule!:

“In the midst of his many wars he found time to have a code of laws written, in which the Ten Commandments and the Golden Rule were incorporated. He personally translated several books from the Latin into the Saxon language, and was partly responsible for the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle, the first written history in any modern language.” (209)

The only point of course of all the numerals is to see the perfection in the order and ever rising completion in sense of substance of God’s eternal moving and isness. So let’s just pause on that a moment. It is the 9^th century, the 3^rd or 3 times rising to the light in the full workings of this 12 century of law and order, which closes with our whole basis in common law and court system, jury both petit and grand etc., just as we have it all today as the basis of our freedom. . . . . .

Let’s pause a bit longer, straight to “the inspired Word”. SCIENCE AND HEALTH in its “numerals” gives by far the most to the 5 that crowns to the full workings of the spiritual idea, the only 12 this Science knows. (S&H 513-518) On Alfred, whom now we are seeing as the first appearing of the First Commandment and the Golden Rule as the basis of law in the language of spirit, the English tongue, the 1^st 5 after in centuries is Wiclif, same part of century, seeing this law as the freedom of each for himself to turn straight to God interpreting the Holy Word direct himself and all materiality as church not the real law, etc.

The 2^nd crowning 5 after Alfred, in century of course is our Science. But what is so the “crowning” of, to the very same decades, the first written appearing law as England, the English tongue or garment for Science and Health, is the fact that above all in its full Science as language, Christian Science rests on, as Mrs. Eddy says again and again, on the First Commandment and the Golden Rule! Three times in the Manual-42, 44, 48-for all the thinking of the individual, from no malpractice to no personality. Three times in the final general direction for all practice throughout the world, in “Choose Ye!” (My. 4-5) You’re likely by now getting fed up with “numerals”, but even in these two pages, 4-5, just right, four the right statement identified going forth, and five its crowning, which those three statements on the Golden Rule as practice certainly do! I am only saying that God’s order is infinite, never misses and is something to behold.

Alfred of course only glimpsed the Old and the New Commandment that type the one Mind and the one idea, have no other God and the truer, as the one basis, “The newer understanding of Love.” (Whoso 189) But how remarkable that he did actually glimpse it. But no person in it for God is the one Person in His order. Consciousness first unfolds the written law that leads to SCIENCE AND HEALTH as embracing the Two Commandments that are the first and the last in the practice of This Science. And in one thousand “roundings of the starry circle” that SCIENCE AND HEALTH tells us Copernicus took from “chaos” to “correctly explored” numeral (121), the rising higher and higher light gives us the full scientific statement of these Commandments. The correct statements in Science are still not the substance. That comes with us as it did to Mrs. Eddy, in going direct to the same one Source, in the same one Holy Ghost communing.

Where’s our 12 centuries, for the full workings of this first in English Christian law and order? Three more centuries brought its fullness. All our law, order in government and liberty, stems directly to what Consciousness unfolded in the last half of that 12^th century: “In 1154 Henry the 2^nd, the first Plantagenet, ascended the throne of England…Besides being King of England, Henry thus controlled more than half of France…the most powerful monarch in western Europe…He substituted order in place of the disorder that had come to prevail. The most important act of Henry was his development of the courts, the jury system, and the common law of England…gave tenants the right to have their cases decided by a body of 12 knights who were familiar with the facts. These 12 men were called ‘jurors’, because they swore to tell the truth. This is the origin of our trial by petit (small) jury. Henry developed a royal court of justice. He sent judges on circuit throughout the kingdom; and at least once a year these judges held court in each county. Further to aid the circuit judges as they passed through their circuits a grand (large) jury, composed of not less than sixteen men….Later, the people accused by the grand jury were allowed to have witnesses and to take their cases before the petit jury, which decided whether they were innocent or guilty. If guilty, the judges then sentenced the offenders…The decisions handed down by the judges were compiled and became the basis of the English common law.” (Epochs 271-274)

Now of course that is just as we would describe our present order in government and law, only filled out more perfect-

ly that is as it appears to the human mind or material sense. But only the one what IS brought forth such a wonderful glimpse, the same law and freedom that was to be seen as America and the ever rising sense of real freedom, the source and hope of the 20^th century world today. Its base was all finished in this first century 12 as English Christianity, exactly as SCIENCE AND HEALTH defines numeral, and in accord with Copernicus’ correct discerning of order in moving of the stars, of the “universe”. Without this timing, our whole sense now of our order would dissolve in chaos. Mrs. Eddy was a mighty stickler under God for this time, punctuality, His right time with His deed.

The next, 13^th century brought our prime defining document in our freedom in law, what the Science was directly to enshrine,–Magna Carta. The next, the 14^th, brought with Wiclif ecclesiastical despotism under this unfolding law and order of God, for Wiclif’s winning the Parliament to do this was coordinate with his giving out the Word first in its language of Spirit, and free to all. The 15^th settled the issue, in bloody striving, [War of the Roses, etc. -J] that it would go freely forth, and the 16^th starting with Henry the 8^th it did freely start forth simultaneously with this unfolding law and order throwing ecclesiasticism out of that law, and in the 17^th the Bible Word in 1611 was made final, and the law and order was made free Protestant forever non-ecclesiastically despotic, its full statement as nation in the 18^th-1776-1789, and the 19^th this law and order, right through its purest Congregational Christ the Head, the final full scientific statement of this law and order.

Now the full light on the 17^th century, and its 3 in the light of spiritual understanding for our now 20^th, applying to its every year and our now 1949, comes even more defined from another fresh 12 approach. That is the Anglo-Saxon, entering this line of light 449 A.D. Its 12 in century to the year is 1649, and is perfectly expressed and completed, of course, in the beheading Jan. 30, 1649 of Chas. I, who was the epitomy of all that was the exact opposite of Anglo-Saxon law and order in government, in all that these 12 centuries of this so wondrously defined.

Let me skip here this and its 20^th century full spiritual light or fulfilling in the impersonal fulfilling of “cct”, and the beheading of its exact opposite,-ecclesiastical, material despotism, the despotism of malicious mind, acceptance of a mind apart from God, malicious mental malpractice. The way the numerals confirm this, even right into the 40s, 1942, ’44, ’45, and I am sure this one mighty substance for 1949 will in due time be understood and confirmed. But this for another letter or memo. In fact there will be a more ordered statement on what the Pyramid material has shown me. You said 24^th Oct. to keep until end of January then return. You named just the best I can do and the way it is being finished. At least this joins with Cha. 1^st, 1649 in his January.

Order, law and order in Christian Science, is indeed a 1^st fundamental. In the Manual it is the 1^st substance dealt with. Sections 1 to 8 of Art. 1 touch on organization, but Sect. 9 moves to the spiritual substance of law and government. In that high-lighting research of our centuries since Wiclif clothed the Bible in the language “of Spirit” (CCT. 300), I went back to 500 B.C., chiefly from the time of Christ Jesus, following each of the centuries down in its spiritual substance. It proved to be a “stunning” revelation. You know that 20 is the field achieving number of Christian Science, as contrasted with 12 that stands for the correct individual understanding. Mis. with its 12 Chapters typifies the latter, My with its 20 Chapters the former. This annual order in the founding comes up many times.

Now here we are in these centuries, the 20^th since Christ Jesus, and this same 20^th is marking for all these centuries, the full final impersonal achieving of Christian Science. Exactly as the founding has shown us the order! Just as perfect for all these 20 centuries as the last five I discussed earlier have been.

Now here is the amazing thing. The 1^st 12 centuries one largest unity, or achieving in understanding, without the slightest question, is the very subject that even the Manual must start with,-law and order, the true substance of government. The 1^st century began with Rome taking over English control, and Rome stood above all for one thing, LAW. So this 1^st century in the line of light to the language and Spirit clothing SCIENCE AND HEALTH start with law. It ends in the 12^th, with the 1^st Plantagenet, Henry II, 1154 to 1189 I believe, establishing our whole basis and system in principle of law, courts, and justice, just as it is right now, common law basis, petit and grand jury, courts of appeal etc. We often go back to Magna Carta with John, on that Thames’ island in 1215 as a great beginning point in our government, and quite true. But that was the going forth of what the 1^st 12 centuries had builded and completed in true understanding of government, the same understanding that Art I, Sect. 9 of the Mother Church Manual is giving us the real spiritual guidance on. What court or law can violate any of our 6 Tenets and be correct? Or Art. VIII, Sections 1, 4, 6, 8, 11, 26 etc.?

Each of these 1^st 12 centuries is in its perfect “numeral of infinity” one spiritual order. Christianity along with a great movement in law began in the 1^st; the Saxons-England’s spiritual heritage crowning-came in the “crowning 5^th (449 A.D. esp.); in the completing 7^th, England was unified in the Christian spirit and bond; in the 9^th, 875-ten centuries to the year on S.&H.,–Alfred the Great built the 1^st English Navy, and conquered the Pagan Dames to Anglo-Saxon law and its spirit, and you know what the control of sea power, that symbol of elementary error, in these eleven centuries has meant. A 9 of course is 3 successive 3s or in important spiritual substance, 3 successive “risings to the light of spiritual understanding”. (S&H 508-509) I practically fell off my chair, in following down this law and order as the 1^st main moving in the English Line of Light, and tongue of the language of spirit, and completed in the 12^th century, to find Alfred gave the 1^st written English Law, about 882, the 1000^th year before Mrs. Eddy started her world teaching in the College 1882 (S&H, Pref.), and “in which the Ten Commandments and the Golden Rule were incorporated,” by Alfred!

You know of course this is the very basis, in Biblical Tenet, of Christian Science. As Mrs. Eddy says in her 1^st authorized statement of C.S., the SCIENCE OF MAN, copyrighted 1870, pps. 4-5, these two are “the first” and the “second” statement “of this Science”. You know it is the whole epitome in spiritual enlightenment in its thrice statement in “Choose Ye!”, in its direction for the genuine practice of the churches. In this order unfolding in the 12 centuries, which ours

is scientifically fulfilling in the 20^th, in the thrice enlightening 9^th century, came our 1^st written English law, directly based on this same and one foundation. How can we doubt God’s hand and substance as the one moving? See the final verse of Christ and Christmas, also quoted ending in A Letter. This enters just to a brief degree in the founding, as the line to the free Congregational church, and also the one teaching basis. I have just tried to suggest it to you here.

Order is always the one Cause-who is so great a God as our God?-controlling, expressing His one idea or effect, expressing all intelligence, all harmony, all rightness, all perfection as all. It is characterized by joy, assurance, conviction, an infinite sense and certainty of rightness, all and absolute good, now and to come. So how well, perfectly, you started, in speaking of your experience, its orderliness.

What you said about healing led me to dig some through the founding, and I soon found I had written you 15 pages, so just put it in the file as research digging. Think what you’ve been saved. But a few tidbits. In opening her SCIENCE OF MAN, Mrs. Eddy in her 1^st sentence says, “we teach the basis or Principle that supports this Science, and controls it to certain results in demonstration.” When Mrs. Eddy moved on to Boston in 1878 to spread the now scientific Gospel to the churches, she preached dozens of “Sermons” over one stretch Smith mentioned 32 I think. The early Journals carry many, quite a few of which are in Mis., 160 odd to 200 plus. But of these early days, before the Journal 1883, the one she saved and made permanent, as you know, is Christian Healing.

Thus in the founding, this Christian Healing is the 1^st of her special final metaphysical books, or the 3^rd in her actual founded line, after the Science of Man, then of SCIENCE AND HEALTH. The approximate 20 on this, is her “To the Christian World”, written to reverse the Harold Frederic Case, of London. To compare the two is to see at once how the second compliments the 1^st, dealing with understanding, with the public achieving or demonstration of C.S. healing. In The Way, written as you know for the full spiritual founding in 1889, are as should be there, two of the most fundamental statements: 1) instantaneous healing as what C.S. healing is, and 2) that healing and teaching are one, “the only appropriate seals for Christian Science.” The last one here, for this high-lighting, Is the 1903 “Healing is Better Than Teaching”.(Man. 92)

In the broadest, that was always true, for Mrs. Eddy’s position as Discoverer and Founder, meant that her divinely appointed task was to give the scientific “inspired Word” as the one teaching, and all others to demonstrate it. SCIENCE AND HEALTH places our and the world’s position and place with this Science: “Truth is revealed. It needs only to be practiced.” A glimmer of this would end the Doorley nonsense, also all “organized” Christian Science and its ecclesiasticism.

The 1903 By-law has its exact special significance at that time in the founding, although just as true all the way, and also this not at all in conflict with, healing and teaching are one, for the teaching is the one Mind and one idea, and the healing is this realization. In 1903 Mrs. Eddy had formerly finished her “mothering”, with this 29^th ed. of the Manual taking the name Leader in place of Mother. That means her founding in substance and basic arrangement was completed (Many specific other steps mark this then).

Thus what was most essential for the full statement of this one teaching was now accomplished, shifting in that way the emphasis away from a sense of having to “develop” teaching. This By-law was also significant in timing the picking up of HWE with Mrs. Eddy’s Dedication of her own individual Church “cornerstone”, in

the, simultaneous to this 29^th Man. Ed., Journal, Aug. 1903. That Journal marks the fact in the “divine record”, that “cct” was now in the hands that would assure its final impersonal field achieving. Doubly thus could attention be directed away from teaching, to the one ever task of healing, maintaining, proving, spiritual wholeness, the one Mind as All. The whole of WHOSO as you know today most especially bears on this basic task of healing, where every Christian Scientist is placed. Pages 45 and 46 are to its whole point. The essence of this is “the refutation of the negation”, the “negation of divine Mind and its activity”

Doesn’t this whole question of the negation, of m.m.m., seem infinitely clearer and simpler since you got right down to “cct”?

You speak about the Dixon students being disturbed over the C.S. organized negation. We agree with the adversary, by reversal, we must never forget, by seeing and holding to the reality. [handwritten in margin: (not in) agree not with the negation but with what the negation is declaring!-JEJ] Now can we say, Yes, eccles. Boston, you are right, The Mother Church is material, so I’ll resign from it. If we see it for what it is, the universal individual spiritual bond in the one true correct understanding, what have we to resign from? Why not instead stand for what it is, what IS? Now Dixon of course resigned in 1923, so did I for that matter. But Dixon’s position is not that of others, and now. His resignation letter gives an excellent statement of what the M.C. is, its indestructible reality, and that he was going right with it.

As Christ Jesus said, I come not to destroy but to fulfill. Negation, the lie, is never entity, never person, place, or thing (Mess. ’01 12:27-4). We dare not have anything as consciousness to us unlike God, apart from Him. The negation is not apart from but negatively declares Him, His allness, and by reversal He is found as its substance instead of its shadow, is a misconception. The Mother Church member must act with that one real understanding, and stop thinking and acting ecclesiastically. Go from belief to understanding, and heal instead of just “doing things”, take practice from personal sense to Mind-sense.

Dear . . . .

The improvement you feel is of course your actual, real, present, and ever state of ease and harmony. The nature of the lie is to make a good simulation of “derangement” (S&H. 421), and discord (276:26), but it really as you know so well is nothing.

If there were the slightest thing really wrong with you, as matter-body, or as Mind-body, we really couldn’t do a thing about it, could we? The S&H. 373:19-26 plunges right to the only “problem” we ever have, and that one infinite opportunity only, for the reversal of the lie it ever is, in the purity and oneness with Him, of our one conscious being. (My. 356:25-28)

There is of course, no matter (S&H. 75:11), 113:30-31, 278:7, 475:3, and there is no disease (S&H. 421:18), Sin, the lie of another mind than Me, God, the “claim” that “there is malicious mind” (CCT. 213:10-22), is the unseen and only foe, which can and does but to “praise Him” (WHOSO 103-106), and force me to the infinity and allness of my good, as Spirit not matter.

God being All-in-all, He is the only “person, place and thing”, and all that is shown forth as person, place and thing (CCT. 103-112), so He is the one gland, its every action His Mind-action maintaining His balanced perfection as all chemical supply. God as the one gland, and the only gland, certainly leaves nothing wrong or as imperfect functioning, as your here and now only glands. Of course, it seems very real. But is it? Any more than any lie, or hypnotic illusion as entertainment?

All medical diagnosis (that kind of seeking after cause and effect,) more and more is verging on statement in terms of chemical unbalance, too much of one thing and too little of the other, for right and perfect body chemical action. You recall Mrs. Eddy’s wonderful statement on restoration of perfect body chemistry in the Science of Man, right from the start in her 1st copyrighted Science statement.

CCT states and perfectly raises this question, as the negation declaring the perfection of the one body chemistry in the one harmony: “It (the negation) defines itself as a point of morbid chemical action, from which go forth disturbing influences. Upon this hang the arguments of related disease. Do you accept or reject this theory?” (213-214).

Of course we reject it, right through to “cct”, and to its final understanding of the negation, Mrs. Eddy’s one greatest problem in the Founding, as “the negative statement of the Truth” (CCT.18), as the declaring of God’s allness by reversal, (S&H. 442), (WHOSO 156-160). But with this rejection, silently we pray in our heart, as Mrs. Eddy so perfectly states it, and its answer in Ret. 60:11 to 61:12: “Material sense asks, in its ignorance of Science, ‘When will the raging of the material elements cease?” “‘Material sense saith, OH, when will my sufferings cease? Where is God'”? (60)

God is not in matter and neither are you, and this “ogre” as or of material sense is really but “lightly” lifting from you the Adam-lie accumulation of the beliefs or arguments of SIN, that “old deceiver” as wonderfully described by John in his Revelation dictated to him by our Master (Rev. 20:2, WHOSO 62), or as Peter in 1:5-8 put it, “your adversary the devil”, or as John again in his own 1:3:8 put it, “destroy works of the devil”.

It may not seem just quite this way to you at the moment, but that makes no difference,-you truly are one of the most privileged on “this earth”. The centuries and the ages of all recorded history have fought and most struggled in vain for what you know, the Pearl of great price, for which we do indeed “sell” all,-the conviction that sin, malicious mind, is the (unseen) adversary, and that his one channel and mode or tool is malicious mental malpractice; and the Pearl of it is, that this mind-impact serves, subserves, and declares God alone, seen through the eyes of and handled as this Science.

As HWE in a letter at end of September in his “cct” clarity hit the bull’s eye of it: “The ability to stay on the true path comes from knowing how to handle m.m.m. scientifically.”

This is your Pearl and your glory, as the Christian Scientist. You do know, and you know how to! You know no [one] can ever reach you let alone attack you for you as His one idea are not on that plane of hypnotism and never were. Pebbles from a “flit gun” never bothered “howitzer gun” shooters, and you are in the howitzer division now, as the Scientist understanding evil as God’s law to all unlike Himself.

Ask yourself carefully,-what is this source “making my glands, so-called big and painful”? Who, what source, says I am deteriorating, that I am born of venereal poison, carrying my death seed from within the seed that gave me birth? Who, what mortal, being sources are saying to me, in evil’s one channel as “direction by malicious minds”,-all this angry but stupid nonsense?

Here I AM, all and that which enables God to be what HE IS, as I am, His showing forth and proof of being and glory, this, His idea.

God is Mind, the one Mind, Spirit, Soul, the one consciousness, so no malicious mind with one finite mind-body channel, called a mortal right where, there indeed and positively IS, your body and whole conscious being.

How many here’s have we? For Elias, Elijah, Jesus, EAK, MBE and all of us? If there is but ONE, as His One and one, where are we going to? (See CCT. 279-282– a real 3 of “light” on death.) Every time any of us die, we “awake” only to feel like the chap who “bought the Brooklyn bridge.”

Christian Science is a marvelous thing: we can’t trifle with it, ignorance is never a help here as elsewhere, and then the mystery of God and of evil begins to unfold, to each our own understanding.

The “wiji” board as it must, there embraced your own fears, etc.,,,but is this fact or hypnotic suggestion?

You say this (wiji board experience) has given me a lot to think about. Do you not see right through this, as right through your consciousness of gland? In 1889 MBE moved right out of Boston to Concord, N.H….Jesus said, “Pick up thy bed and walk.” Venereal poison and all that claims to be you out of a womb, can not touch you. As He is, you are, right there and now, His perfection in His infinite harmony.
